History

The North Okanagan Model Railway Association was established in 1976 by a group of local model railroaders interested in forming a club. Initially sessions were held in a member’s garage.  In 1980 a permanent location was found on the second floor of the Greenhow building, located at the Historic O’Keefe Ranch, The club has been located there ever since, housing railroad displays in various scales, artifacts, operating model railroads, and a meeting room. The O’Keefe Ranch is a historic local tourist attraction owned and operated by the City of Vernon with funding also from the North Okanagan Regional District.  The club is charged a nominal fee per year for the space and in return provides and maintains a historical operating railway display.  The club’s layout illustrates various significant scenes in miniature from the surrounding area.
